A Walk in the Woods: A Hike up Prentice Hill

With: Ryan Owens and Nancy Botkin

Walk Fee: By donation/ registration required

Walk size: no limit / 8+ with accompanying adult

Join us for a two-mile round-trip hike up Prentice Hill, which sits between Alstead Center and East Alstead. The short, pleasant trail winds uphill through mixed forest to the hilltop, offering nice views of Lake Warren below. Though not long, the trail is a steady climb. We will meet at 23 Bley Road at 9:00 a.m., then walk up Prentice Hill Road to the Hill footpath. This program is co-sponsored by the Monadnock Conservancy.

Ryan Owens joined the Monadnock Conservancy as a conservation project manager in 2006 and became its Executive Director in 2008. He completed his master’s degree through the Field Naturalist Program at the University of Vermont, where he studied natural resource inventory and interpretation with an eye to applying science and communication to land conservation challenges.

Nancy Botkin is the granddaughter of Edith and Heman Chase, and has explored Prentice Hill every summer since she was a child. She spends her winters at her home in San Francisco learning and practicing new book and paper craft skills. She then teaches them to others in the summer. This is her third year teaching at the Mill.
