Woodworking Artist-in-Residence
Summer 2022
Seeking a Woodworking Artist-in-Residence at Chase’s Mill for the Summer of 2022. This individual should be knowledgeable and skilled in woodworking and interested in advancing their skills, sharing their knowledge, and participating in the Chase’s Mill community.
Expectations of the Woodworking Artist-in-Residence:
Participate in community woodworking classes including assisting instructors, when needed.
Organize and help facilitate open shop time with the Program’s Manager that allows for practice time for those who have taken woodworking classes at Chase’s Mill.
Be available in the woodworking shop for typically three half days/week (that including at least one weekend day) each week from June 18th through September 4th (approximately 11 weeks, referred to as the “Summer”). During these times:
· Provide demonstrations on woodworking techniques.
· Serve as a resource in answering questions that shop users may have.
· Provide safety training to users of shop tools and machines.
· Keep a watchful eye for safety, and be willing to remind users of safety precautions when using tools.
· Maintain the shop in a clean and organized manner and make minor repairs as needed.
· Store their projects and materials out of the public areas during classes and open shop times.
· Maintain shop records as needed.
· Close-up shop at the end of open shop time.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
Is an evolving woodworking artist and craftsperson.
Knows how to use all of the tools and machines in the shop.
Has awareness and understanding of the safety protocols for use of machines, tools, and fire protocols.
Has social skills to support those who are using the shop during classes and open shop time.
Benefits:
Will be awarded a $1,000/Summer for personal woodworking materials needed in their artist/craftsperson activities.
Will be provided a stipend of $1,000/Summer for assisting with teaching, mentoring and overseeing open shop hours.
Will be provided a fully equipped woodworking shop during the Summer to use during weekdays (outside of classes or open shop hours) for pursuing their craft. Consumable shop materials not included.
